Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Paul JM Kawimbe
The Right Reverend Paul Jones Mulenga Kawimbe is the hundred and twenty first elected and consecrated Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. He is a native of Zambia and the son of Mr. Kelvin Tandeo Mulenga Kawimbe and Mary Chanda Kawimbe. He is a servant of the Lord who not only answered God’s call to ministry, but also heeded Paul’s advice to Timothy by “studying to show himself approved.”
The landmarks on his educational journey include a Certificate in Evangelism from the Haggai Institute; a Diploma in Biblical Studies from the Kaniki Bible School; a diploma in Organizational Techniques from the Equipped to Go Institute; a Diploma in Missiology, Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Theology from Rochville and Master of Divinity from the International School of Missions at Oxford; a Doctorate in Applied Philosophy from Regis University and a Doctorate in Ministry from the Evangelical Global Seminary.
Not only is Bishop Kawimbe a biblical scholar, he has also ably served the African Methodist Episcopal Church as the Pastor of Membe Chapel; Pastor of Bethel AME Church, Lusaka, Zambia; Secretary of the South East Zambia Annual Conference Task Force; Dean of the South East Zambia Annual Conference; Secretary of the Lusaka East Presiding Elder's District; Presiding Elder of the Lusaka East District; Lecturer in the Seventeenth Episcopal District Christian Education Department; Secretary of Seventeenth Episcopal District Presiding Elder's Council; Treasurer of the Seventeenth Episcopal District; Personal Assistant to the Bishop; Secretary of the AME Church African Summit; Secretary of the Commission on Africa Development and Secretary of the Africa Jurisdictional Council of AME Church.
Bishop Kawimbe’s ministry extends beyond his Episcopal Service and shows a life of commitment to community wellbeing and ecumenical cooperation. He previously served as Vice Board Chair Theological Education by Extension; Dean of Studies for His People Bible Schools International; Sub Committee Chair of the National Organizing Committee (Ministry of Sport, Youth and Child Development); Chaplain at the University of Zambia, the Malcom Moffat Teachers Training College and the David Livingstone Teachers Training College; Visiting Lecturer at the University of Zambia’s School of Humanities; Head of Youth and Chaplaincy Department for the Christian Council of Zambia; Youth Coordinator for the Southern Africa Region of the All Africa Conference of Churches; Chair of Orphaned and Vulnerable Children Network of the Christian Council of Zambia; Board Chair for Gospel Volunteers; Vice Chair of the Prisoners Aid Society of Zambia; Vice Chair of the Ndola Minister Alliance; Chaplain for the Ndola Lions School for the Blind and Chair of the Kanyama Local Christian Council of Zambia. Evangelical Global Seminary Commissioner for Africa. Bishop Kawimbe founded the African Methodist Episcopal Church in Kenya which is now a conference on its own.
Bishop Kawimbe has a proven record of Ministry in the trenches of Africa. With a great conviction to his calling he is consistently and competently presiding over the 19th District Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. However improbable this may seem to be to the skeptics, Bishop Kawimbe is persuaded and believes that the potential and growth of the African Methodist Episcopal Church rests in the Continent of Africa.
Bishop Kawimbe’s goal in ministry is to empower the membership and the communities through Education, Health programs, Economic Empowerment, Church growth and Expansion. Bishop Kawimbe pursues that goal in spite of challenges that include high levels of illiteracy; millions of children from poor families - especially those whose parents have died from HIV/AIDS - who cannot afford to attend school, lack of free and qualitative education for the poor and a lack of school buildings, supplies and furniture.
While Bishop Kawimbe serves the church with commitment and distinction, he is no less committed in his role as a husband and father. He is married to Episcopal Supervisor Dr Lister M Kawimbe. He is happy father of Lethabo, Christopher, Emanuel, Joshua, Paul Jr., Koketso, Damaris and Jemima Kawimbe and a happy grandfather to Paul, Kutlwano, Emmanuel, Kamogelo and Katlego.
Bishop Kawimbe is a Zambian religious diplomat.
